Joining Weekend Retreats

The weekend retreat is a concrete way of "getting away" from life's pressures, even for just a short time. On a weekend retreat, the person would learn meditation -- its meaning and techniques. Indeed, this is a crucial tool in cutting down stress and strengthening one's source of happiness, because these are things that are getting more and more neglected in these very fast-paced times.

The weekend retreat proffers comfort and friendship to the participants. There are retreats for newbies or newcomers, while others cater more to those who have already experienced many weekend retreat sessions in the past.

Before you go to the weekend retreat, think of these

First, get inputs from friends who are on the spiritual professions (priests, rabbis, etc.) or even those whom you consider as deeply religious. You have to ask yourself: why should I go to one? Going there just because the whole family is going for a month-long vacation to Hawaii leaving you alone at home for whatever reasons and you are doing nothing at home may not be a good reason to join a weekend retreat. That is, if you will be attending the weekend retreat for the wrong reasons, you may also find the experiences and activities in the weekend retreat boring as well. Take note of your spiritual experiences and interests. Remember that not all weekend retreats are the same. There are those with very minimal interaction between the participants, while there are those with several opportunities for group sharing and interaction. It would be best to inquire from the hosts/organization before getting a reservation.

Check also how long you would like to go on a retreat. There are those people who have just suffered from a great tragedy such as a death in the family. These people might need a longer kind of retreat, and a weekend retreat may prove insufficient for the person to restore his or her emotional balance and inner peace.
